THE MIND
If we could understand the Bible like that.
A Transposition of Hinduism to Christianity. Krsna = Master or Christ, Ajuna = Thomas, Yoga = Religion (Religare) The realization of God within.
We took Thomas the stubborn disciple to help us narrowing the true knowledge of Christ, or Spiritual Master.
Two illustrations will be posted showing (1) The uncontrolled mind (2) The controlled mind or achievement.
The mind is so strong and so obstinate that it sometimes exceeds intelligence. For a man in the practical world who has to fight so many opposing elements, Mind is certainly very difficult to control. Artificially, one can establish a mental balance towards the friend and the enemy, but finally no man of the world can do it, because it is more difficult than to control a raging wind. In Vedic literatures, it is said: “The individual is the passenger in the chariot of the material body, and the intelligence is the driver.” The Mind is the driving instrument, and the senses are the Horses. The association of mind and senses, as is understood by the great thinkers. “Intelligence is supposed to lead the mind, see Illustration (1)
But the mind is so strong and stubborn that it even surpasses its own intelligence, for an acute infection can surpass the efficiency of medicine. Such a strong mind is supposed to be controlled by the practice of yoga (Religion). But such a practice is never convenient for a disciple model like Thomas. And what can we say about modern man? The difficulty is perfectly expressed. You cannot capture the wind that’s blowing and it’s even harder to capture the restless mind.
The Lord said, “O powerful son of Kunti, it is undoubtedly very difficult to curb the restless mind, but it is possible through constant practice and detachment.
Jesus said, Matthew 10: 34 I did not come to bring peace on the earth, but a sword, it was to this detachment that he was referring.
For one whose mind is unbridled, self-realization is hard work. But he whose mind is controlled and who strives by just means is assured of success. It’s My judgment.
The Supreme Being declares that: whoever does not accept the appropriate treatment to detach the Mind from the material commitment can hardly succeed in self-realization. Trying to practice yoga while engaging the mind in material pleasure is like trying to light a fire while pouring water on it. Similarly, the practice of yoga without mental control is a waste of time. Such a yoga practice show can be material Thomas said: What is the destination of the man of faith who does not persevere, who at first took the path of self-realization which later abandons the world and does not attain perfection in mysticism?
The path of self-realization or mysticism is described in the scriptures: (Detachment)
