PSALM 78
The people cry over the ruin of the City, the Temple and all the massacres that followed. God will punish the guilty.
O God, nations have entered into your inheritance, they have defiled your holy temple; They made Jerusalem a hut for storing fruit.
They have given the corpses of your servants in the pastures to the birds of the air; and the flesh of your saints, to the beasts of the earth.
They shed their blood like water around Jerusalem; and no one buried them.
We have become the disgrace of our neighbors; mockery and toy of those around us.
How long, Lord, will you be completely angry? How long will your zeal burn like a fire? Pour out your wrath on the nations that do not know you and on the kingdoms that do not call on your name.
Because they devoured Jacob and devastated his place.
Do not remember our ancient iniquities; may you promptly warn us of your mercy; because we have become too poor.
Help us, O God our Savior, and for the glory of your name, Lord, deliver us and forgive our sins for your name’s sake.
Lest by chance they say among the people, Where is their God?
Therefore make known to the nations, before our eyes, the vengeance of the shed blood of your servants.
Let the groaning of those in chains come into your presence.
According to the greatness of your arm, possess the sons of those who were put to death.
Return us to our neighbors, and pour into their bosoms sevenfold: restore to them the shame which they claimed to cover for you, O Lord.
As for us, your people and the sheep of your pasture, we will praise you forever. Throughout all generations we will declare your praise.
PSALM 88
The Prophet celebrates the mercy, the patience, the promises of God.
But then why does God delay, despite so many promises, sending his Christ, because his people, his house, his family are exposed to all dangers?
May God remember
I will sing of the mercy of the Lord forever.
Through my mouth I will declare your truth throughout all generations.
Because you said: Mercy will be established in heaven forever; our truth will be strengthened.
I have established an alliance with my chosen ones; I have sworn to David my servant to establish his race for ever: and I will establish his throne for all generations.
The heavens will declare your wonders, Lord, and your truth in the assembly of the saints.
For who, naked, will be equal to the Lord; and it will be the same.
The God who is glorified in the assembly of saints; it is great and terrible especially those who are
around him.
Lord, God of hosts, who is like you? you are powerful, Lord, and the truth is around you.
It is you who dominate the power of the sea, and the movement of its waves, it is you who calm it.
It is you who have humiliated a proud man like a mortally wounded man: with the strength of your arm you have dispersed your enemies.
Yours are the heavens, and yours is the earth the globe of the earth and its fullness, it is you who founded the Bez: the Weatherlight and the sea it is you who created them.
Tabor and Hermon will leap for joy in your favor, your arm is strong.
Let your hand be strong and your right exalted, justice and judgment are the foundation of your throne.
Mercy and truth will precede your face, blessed are those who know how to rejoice in you.
Lord, in the light of your face they will walk, and in your name they will tremble for joy all the day, and in your righteousness they will be exalted.
Since the glory of their power is you; and that by your good will our horn will be exalted.
Because it is the Lord who has taken us under his protection, and the Holy One of Israel our king.
Then you speak in a vision to your saints and say, I have put my help in a mighty man; and I have raised up one chosen from among my people.
I found David my servant, and I anointed him with my holy oil.
For my hand will help him, and my arm will strengthen him.
An enemy will do nothing against him, and a son of iniquity will no longer be able to harm him.
And I will cut his enemies to pieces, and those who hate him I will keep them in flight.
