Here is an excerpt from the Book of Adam:

Just as I advise you to be your own doctors before bothering the scientists who are there to help you correct your shortcomings, in the same way,I will ask you to be your own theologians.

This is the book that the angel Raphael, guardian of the planet Mercury, gave to Adam after his fall into matter, so that he could be guided on the difficult path of earthly life and for his survival in the world. It gives us the following advice:

O you, my chosen and peaceful ones, be docile (to my words), and deserve the name of chosen, peaceful, and faithful. Love one another according to justice, and let your mercy reach the highest degree.

Be gentle and submissive to your teachers, to these upright men who teach you wisdom and truth. Receive no benefit from them, which would be a stain on your souls.

Beware of consulting magicians and Chaldeans who dwell in darkness. Do not make false oaths, but never break the oaths you have taken. Do not squander what has been entrusted to you under the pretext of interest owed to you, for on the day of judgment you will be cast into darkness.

Do not make false oaths, but never break the oaths you have taken. Do not squander what has been entrusted to you under the pretext of interest owed to you, for on the day of judgment you will be cast into darkness.

Do not commit fornication, and do not indulge in intemperance; guard against singing and dancing, lest little by little your hearts develop a taste for the songs of Satan, who, by his enchantments, his cunning, and his seductions, corrupts the minds of the peacemakers and defiles the hearts of the faithful.

Observe yourselves, O my chosen ones, and act with prudence, so that you may merit here below the title of vigilant ones. Be courageous in this world and endure persecution steadfastly until the end of your life. Support one another, show hospitality to peacemakers who are persecuted. When your spirit is puffed up with pride, When your spirit swells with pride, humble your haughtiness, and receive the word of your Lord with a submissive heart. For the pride of man is, in truth, the pride of Satan. Therefore, he who is not humble in faith shall perish by the sword; he shall perish by the sword and be cast into the burning fire. When you see an upright man preaching wisdom, draw near to him, that you may hear him and benefit from his words; but if it be a wicked man, flee from him, lest you become wise with his wisdom, practice his deeds, or walk in his path. Whatever is detestable to you—O faithful and peaceable ones—do not do unto your neighbor (1). Perform good deeds, O my chosen ones, and provide yourselves with provisions for your journey. See, listen to, and practice the word of your Lord: let your eyes see, let your ears hear, let your heart love, and let your hands—as it were—touch the blessings and kindnesses of your Lord; thus shall you be obedient to His will. Do not yield to the whims of Satan, nor place your trust in the fleeting beauty of your bodies. Walk according to the words of your Lord, and ascend—with a pure heart—to the realms of light.

The pride of man, in fact, is the pride of Satan. Whoever is not humble in the faith will perish by the sword and the sword; he will perish by sword and sword, and will be thrown into the blazing fire. When you see an honest man preaching wisdom, draw near to him, that you may hear him and profit by it; but if he is a wicked man, flee from him, lest you become wise of his wisdom, or practice his works, or walk in his way.

Whatever is detestable to you, O faithful and peaceable, do not do it to your neighbor. Do good works, O my elect, and bring a viaticum for your journey. See, hear, and practice the word of your Lord: let your eyes see, let your ears hear, let your heart love, let your hands touch, as it were, the blessings and goodness of your Lord, and you will be docile to his will.

Do not obey Satan’s caprice, and do not put your trust in the beauty of your bodies that has so quickly passed. Walk according to the words of your Lord, and ascend with a pure heart to the places of light.

Worship the Highest King of light with humility, and your sins will be forgiven you. Beware, on the contrary, of offering your worship to Satan, as well as to the deceitful images of this world; for everything that begins to exist will come to an end, and everything that is the work of the hand of men will perish.

Do not therefore trust in the world in which you are placed; for it is not yours. On the contrary, put your trust in the good works you do. You will soon leave the earth, so rely on the (good) works of your hands. Take care, O my dear ones, that you do not despise the precepts which your Lord has given you. Carefully cultivate justice, meekness, and humility, which are the qualities of holy light, as well as patience, goodness, benevolence, and mercy.

Men who marry a woman, women who marry a man, beget and bring up your children; if you do not beget and bring them up, bring none the less the dowry that would have served for their education. But let my words guard you against those women who commit evil deeds: so beware of an adulteress, a thief, a coquettish woman, who holds her breath, which leads us to suppose a bad disease that has no remedy. For these deeds are praiseworthy neither in the sight of God nor in the eyes of men.

Do not take a slave woman as your wife who has not received her freedom, and do not give your children into bondage. If a slave fails and avoids his master, let his fault return to his father’s head. When you take a wife, let her be free, and the happiness that will come to you can only increase. Be kind and fair to your wife, who in turn will have to pay you back. Never stray from each other; let death alone separate you. He who treats unworthily a woman who has neither fault, nor dissimulation, nor perfidy to reproach herself with, and who burns for others with immodest love, he will be condemned. If you have children and grandchildren, and they are of school age, teach them the science of truth, and cause them to walk in the path of righteousness. If you fail in this duty, you will give an account of it to the court; if, on the other hand, you give them this instruction, but they are rebellious to it, it is they who will be called to it for their sins.

If anyone ever strays from the right road, bring him back into it and support him; if he has moved away a second time, bring him in again and support him; if he deviates from it a third, let him go back into it again and support him, and let him hear the reading of the holy books, the discourses of piety, and the hymns of your Lord. If, however, he refuses this tutelary hand which you have presented to him, pull up this barren vine, take a good one, and put it in its place. For they spoke in his ears, and he did not hear; the light was shown to his eyes, and he would not see. He was shown the light, and his eyes did not see. Therefore, his ruin will be complete on the day of consummation, he will fall into those abysses of misery into which the wicked will be precipitated, and from which they will never escape.

When you meet men who suffer from any bodily defect, beware of laughing at them. For bodies, made of blood and flesh, can be undermined by pain and disease; but souls have neither pain nor disease to fear: they have only to fear the evil deeds they have committed.

These are my words, O my elect, O my faithful, these are my precepts: Do not worship the seven and twelve heads of this world, who preside over day and night, and who annihilate the spiritual nature given to you of the tabernacle of life. For their splendor does not belong to them, but it has been given to them to illuminate their gloomy abode. These worldly angels spoke words of pride.

Render no worship to the Sun—whose name is Adonai, whose name is Kadosh, whose name is El-El (2), and who possesses yet other mysterious and hidden names in this world.

N.B. The terms “Master” and “Slave” here have nothing to do with the antisocial order of the world, but rather refer to the responsibility that parents bear toward their children, and vice versa.
